Single Focal Lenses

    FAST MEETING FORM

    What is a Monofocal Lens?

Monofocal lenses are placed inside the eye during cataract surgery, monofocal and the most commonly preferred are artificial intraocular lenses. These lenses are an ideal solution, especially for patients with long-distance vision problems.

Cataracts are a common eye disease that occurs when the lens of the eye loses its transparency and becomes cloudy due to various factors. Aging, prolonged exposure to UV rays, trauma, certain systemic diseases, and medication use can accelerate this process. Surgery is the only permanent and effective treatment for cataracts.

At MegaGöz Eye Health Center, we select the appropriate lens for each patient to improve their visual comfort after cataract surgery. For patients with a high need for distance vision monofocal lenses is offered as a safe and effective option.

    Frequently asked questions?

    How Are Monofocal Lenses Applied?

Monofocal lenses are implanted using a modern surgical technique called Phacoemulsification (PHACO). During this procedure:

-A micro-sized incision (approximately 2 mm) is made inside the eye.

-The cloudy natural eye lens is broken down and removed with ultrasonic energy.

-Instead, a monofocal lens selected according to the patient's needs is placed with special injectors.

The procedure is performed with topical anesthesia (drops), and the patient feels no pain during the procedure. This surgical procedure takes approximately 10–15 minutes and is performed by our experienced surgeons in a sterile operating room.

    Pre- and Post-Treatment Process

    Before Surgery:

-The eye structure is examined in detail.

-Other refractive errors such as astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia are evaluated.

The most appropriate lens type is determined by taking into consideration the patient's lifestyle, profession and visual expectations.

    Postoperative:

-The eye may remain closed overnight after the operation.

-The patient is called for a follow-up visit the next day and medication/drop treatment is started.

-The full recovery process is completed within a few weeks.

-Distance vision is corrected; glasses may be required for near distance vision.

Who is a Monofocal Lens Suitable For?

Monofocal lenses are particularly suitable for:

    -Diagnosed with cataracts

    -People with distant vision impairment

    -Individuals aged 40 and over

-Accepting to solve the near vision problem with glasses
    suitable for patients.

Because these lenses focus on a single distance (usually far), patients can continue to use glasses for near tasks (such as reading or using the phone).
