    Strabismus Treatment

Strabismus (Strabismus) is the inability of both eyes to focus on the same point at the same time. Under normal circumstances, the eye muscles allow the eyes to move in harmony. However, in strabismus, one eye may look straight ahead while the other eye may turn inward, outward, upward, or downward. This condition is more than just an aesthetic problem. It can also negatively affect visual function and depth perception.

    Frequently asked questions?

    What is Strabismus?

Strabismus is the movement of two eyes in opposite directions. One eye looks straight ahead, while the other looks inward, outward, upward, or downward. Patients with strabismus can sometimes see clearly with both eyes in various head positions, such as tilting their heads to the right or left. Sometimes strabismus can manifest itself through such abnormalities in head position.

    Who is Affected by Strabismus?

While it's most commonly seen in children, it can also develop in older adults. Strabismus affects 5% of all children and 1% of adults. It's equally common in both sexes. Except for some rare cases, it's generally not genetically transmitted.

Do Our Two Eyes Work Together?

Vision is a process that occurs in the brain. The eye is the organ of emotional perception. The image formed by the stimuli received by the retina is transmitted to the visual cortex in the brain via the optic nerve and visual pathways. In addition to this emotional system, there is a motor system (extraocular muscles) used to direct both eyes to the relevant object and create the same image on both retinas. Normally, our eyes look at the same point, and the two images transmitted from each eye to our brain are combined (fused) by our brain, resulting in three-dimensional (stereopsis) vision. In short, this is achieved through our eyes, the movement centers in our brain, and six muscles located outside the eye.
